327 Richey Avenue
Constructed sometime around 1910, the house at 327 Richey Avenue survived an indignity suffered by many an old house: during a six-month vacancy, it lost all of its mantels and a stained glass window. Luckily, the Kramer's purchased the house in 2004 and began restoring it right away.
John and Wendy are ambitious do-it-yourselfers. Take a look at the third floor, which they’ve gutted for eventual renovation. Each room in this house was completely renovated from the bare studs. The second-floor bathroom got even more attention than that—they moved it into a larger room (to accommodate a double vanity and Jacuzzi tub) and turned the original bath into a laundry room. The Kramer's most recent projects include rewiring the second-floor bedrooms and installing new wood trim, which they had milled to match the original.
The Kramer's and their home are an inspiration to anybody who dreams of someday owning a gorgeous old house. It may take a little (or a lot!) of effort, but the results are definitely worth it.
