Jeremiah and Rebecca bought this charming 1920s home in 2007, right out of college. They have accomplished so much since then, including replacing the roof—which, when they bought the house, was entirely covered by a blue tarp. The house even had a nickname: the Tarp House!

This house was split at one time into two apartments. Restoration efforts include a kitchen expansion, a bathroom expansion, and remodeling of all of the bedrooms (along with refinishing the hardwood floors throughout). The owners are also painting the exterior in historically appropriate colors.

The entryway and staircase, previously painted, have been refinished. Radiant floor heating keeps the sun porch comfortable year-round. Jeremiah and Rebecca restored the pocket doors in the living room and exposed the fireplace. They also removed the wall between the kitchen and the dining room, which uncovered the fireplace and the accent windows, and built a new mantel.

The kitchen features recessed lighting as well as art glass pendant fixtures, all-new cabinetry, stainless steel appliances, butcher block countertops, and an island on casters. The brick chimney in the corner is an especially attractive accent.

Because of the roof, the master bedroom suffered severe water damage, although it does retain its original crown moldings. The owners removed the carpeting and uncovered the brick fireplace along with two small windows.

This lovely home has come a long way from its "Tarp House" days, and the owners say there is still a lot to do. They're looking forward to finishing their dream house in a dream neighborhood, complete with its easy commute and spectacular views of Riverview Park.
