Perry Traditional Academy High School

Perry Traditional Academy High School

Built in 1899 and designated a historical landmark by the Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation in 2001, Perry High School (now Pittsburgh Perry Traditional Academy) is a partial magnet school that focuses on developing the whole adolescent. We believe that emphasis on academics, attendance, and positive behavior will provide opportunities for all students to achieve at their highest level.

The school has undergone many changes over the years. In the mid-1990s, the annex (which was once a movie theater) was demolished, and a new gym and pool were added. Before this renovation, the main office served as the library and the current library was the swimming pool. In 2012, the auditorium and heating system were updated, and the second and third-floor wings were converted into classrooms. The main entrance is part of the original Perry High School.

Perry offers a full academic curriculum including language classes and biotech studies. Perry biotech students participate in on-site training and observe demonstrations at Allegheny General Hospital, and high achieving students attend college-level courses in partnership with Carlow University.

Extracurricular activities such as clubs, sports, musicals, and band enrich and support the educational environment. The National Honor Society and National Society of Black Engineers build long-term academic success. Perry’s Young Eco-Stewards help upgrade the school grounds and volunteer for neighborhood planting projects. All Perry students enjoy creative arts and special projects related to their studies and senior focus—look for examples of these throughout the building.

Perry is proud to participate in the Observatory Hill House Tour and invites all community friends or prospective parents to attend the Perry School Community Council meetings on the first Tuesday of each month at 1:00 pm in the school library. Please call the Perry office at 412 323-3300 to confirm.
