Built
around 1898, the Borgers purchased the house in 1998, one hundred years
later. The previous owners had updated the windows and finished the third
floor. The Borgers have been continuing this restoration by updating
the kitchen, furnace, and plumbing/sewage systems and refinishing the hardwood
floors.
The entry has a stained glass window on the landing and is home
to a 1929 smoking table at the rear of the door. The dining room
has lovely woodwork and tile on its fireplace and boasts a 1923
Victrola and an antique cabinet which was used for accounts in a
general store in Greenville, PA and now houses a stereo and CDs.
The kitchen retains the original butler's pantry cabinets. There
are new cabinets over the sink, stove and back window. The very
elaborate tile work in the second floor bath is very impressive.
Bedrooms boast wonderful woodwork and tile on the fireplaces. The
master bedroom contains an antique child's school desk.
The attic, which had been finished by a previous owner, is used as an office
and a guest bedroom. The third floor bath is a nice space with great storage
capabilities.
Bryan and Lori, along with their two children, Sarah and Joshua,
have come to love Observatory Hill. Their home provides their children
with wonderful spaces in which to play and they especially enjoy
dining out on their front porch. It truly is a family home. |
