Richard Barton is a newcomer to Observatory
Hill. Of Welsh ancestry, Richard was raised in Brisbane, Australia,
where he was a top flight rugby player.
Richard purchased the house on Ritchie Avenue in 2001 from the Veterans
Affairs Lot Sale. He was drawn to the neighborhood by the convenience
to Riverview Park and the easy access to the City of Pittsburgh
and North Hills.
This yellow brick home was built in 1910 and has been sold four
times in its 93 years. During its long history there were no revnovations
done. When Richard purchased the house it had been vacant for two
years and the house was all but falling down.
A self-proclaimed handy-man, Richard is painstakingly renovating
the house room by room. Richard has completely renovated the first
floor. He plastered all of the walls and stripped seveal fireplaces,
restoring them to there original beauty. The kitchen is new with
a black and white checker floor and a 50s range giving it an overall
50s look. There is a beautiful stained glass window going to the
second floor.
The front porch was rebuilt last year and there is a small back
porch with a level yard.
