Home of Michael Everhart
Mike purchased this 1920s Colonial in 1993. On your way in, take a look at the beautiful English garden. Arches grace the front door and the French doors that lead to the porch. Mike updated and painted the entire house inside and out and from top to bottom; he found the French doors to the sunroom in the basement. Washing and repointing revealed that the exterior brick was not dark red but actually multi-colored—a nice surprise!
The interior of the house reflects a contemporary sensibility. The dining room was recently updated, with walls painted a brighter color to highlight the woodwork. The living room has been completely renovated and features Stickley furniture, recessed lighting, red leather club chairs, and custom built-ins made of cherry wood. Mike restored most of the woodwork on the first floor by hand, stripping the baseboards, chair rails, fireplace mantel, and the arched doors and doorways. Jennifer McClain, the artist who lives next door to Mike, created the two paintings.
Mike gutted the kitchen down to the joists and reconfigured it into an efficient, modern galley-style space with a black and white retro theme. The sunroom was redesigned as a sitting room and office and repainted in colors that change throughout the day, which gives the room a different feel depending on the time. Check out the Tiffany blue ceiling and recessed lighting.
Don’t leave without visiting the deck, which serves as an additional living space in the summer and provides spectacular views of the West End. Down below is the detached two-car garage, which replaced the deteriorated original.
