Our Baytree Community Garden Will Grow on You

We have been working to transform an overgrown vacant lot into a community garden located at 3712 Baytree Street. We have made great strides thanks to the support of area volunteers. We have installed several raised garden beds, new hand rails are up, a 22-foot section of hillside has been dug for a retaining wall, a split rail fence was installed and new solar lights provide a charming touch. Thanks to Doug Deckert for his time and efforts in overseeing this new project. Volunteers are welcome to help with watering and weeding.
This has been a cozy space for us to host neighborhood gatherings and have hot dog roasts. Watch this page for our schedule of events.
Thanks to The Sprout Fund, we received a $1050 Neighbor to Neighbor Grant. Thank you to everyone who has supported this effort, signed our petition and donated funding towards this project. We purchased cement and pavers to install a patio and fire pit with a seating area. Future plans include picnic tables and benches to expand our gathering space.
This past April, we teamed up with the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh for their national Good Deeds Day event. We had 19 volunteers who helped us to form a human chain and pass up over 3,286 pounds of bricks and pavers to build our patio space and fire pit area.
