Mount Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church
3936 Perrysville Avenue. Originally Mt. Zion was located on Franklin Road, just north of the current site. It was a Gothic clapboard structure that soon became too small for a burgeoning congregation. Land was purchased on Perrysville Avenue, which already bore a four story apartment building; eventually that building became a part of the church complex.
Uniquely situated to make the most of its triangular sloping site, Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church is a very prominent feature in the Observatory Hill business district and equally in the spiritual lives of our community. The granite Gothic structure was built in 1914 and is well known for the impressive German stained glass windows in the sanctuary.
In addition to Sunday morning worship, Mt. Zion has an especially strong music ministry, a Vacation Bible School and a Wednesday evening Church School. Space is also provided for T.O.P.S., Narcotics Anonymous and Glade Run Lutheran Services.
